Opus saves jobs at Ream Kitchens

A well-known kitchen and bathroom business in Kent has been given a fresh start after being

successfully sold, helping to protect local jobs and paving the way for future growth with

support from Opus Restructuring and Insolvency.

Ream Kitchens Limited, based in Gillingham, has built a strong reputation over the years for designing, manufacturing and installing high-quality kitchens and bathrooms from its popular local showroom.  But the business had faced a period of significant challenge after a combination of health issues and personal bereavements affected its leadership team, placing strain on day-to-day operations.  Despite these difficulties, the underlying business remained strong, with a loyal customer base and a reputation for quality.

After an initial attempt to sell the business proved unsuccessful, the directors sought advice from Opus with a view to placing the company into administration.  However, following a detailed review, Ben Stanyon, Partner, Opus, identified a viable alternative.

Rather than progressing with a formal insolvency process, Opus undertook a renewed approach to the market, engaging with a broader pool of potential buyers.  This ultimately resulted in a successful share sale, completed on 17 April 2026, ensuring the continuation of the business and the preservation of all jobs.

“We could see very quickly that this was a fundamentally good business that had been through an incredibly difficult period.  It had a strong reputation, a great team, and real potential for the future,” says Stanyon.  “While administration was an option, our focus is always on achieving the best possible outcome for the business and its stakeholders.  In this case, that meant taking a step back and exploring whether we could secure a sale instead.  I’m pleased we were able to deliver that outcome, protecting jobs and giving the business the fresh start it deserved.”

The new owner plans to build on Ream Kitchens’ strong foundations, with ambitions to expand its offering and explore opportunities within the trade kitchen market.  “Ream Kitchens is a fantastic business with a strong local reputation and a highly skilled team,” says Warren Wright, the new owner of Ream Kitchens.  “We’re delighted to have completed the acquisition and are excited about what comes next.  There is a real opportunity to grow the business further, including expanding into new markets, while continuing to deliver the quality and service for which the company is recognized.”

The sale of Ream Kitchens highlights Opus’ commitment to putting people and businesses first, looking beyond formal insolvency routes where possible to deliver practical, value-driven solutions.
